Advantages of a Gas BBQ Grill

By May 13th, 2010

Tending to the grill and cooking juicy steaks and tasty burgers is a task most people enjoy when they own an outdoor barbeque. If you’re looking for a quality grill then Spring time is the best time to start as new models are entering the market and older versions put on offer. There are plenty of cheap styles around, just take a trip to your local DIY or home store to check out the options, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

There are 3 main types of outside barbeques – electric, charcoal and gas. The main benefit of choosing gas over either electric or charcoal is affordability, the size and quality you opt for depends on your budget and the space you have available. Gas grills also provide you with an instant flame which is generally fuelled by a tank of propane gas and inexpensive to buy.

Gas is easy to light, just turn it on and flick a switch, there is no need for messy coal, trying to get wood sticks to catch alight or cleaning up and disposing of ashes once the food has all been cooked. Once it is lit you are more or less ready to start cooking, unlike charcoal grills that require coals to be glowing white before it is ready for the meat to be placed on the grill. Also adjusting the temperature for the type of food to be cooked is just a matter of adjusting the flame height, then the grill should do the rest.

Gas lasts for a long time so even if you only purchase a portable canister it should see you through the summer. This makes them particularly cost effective and barbequing at home works out much cheaper then getting take-outs or dining at restaurants, particularly if you have a large family and are watching the pennies.

There is a great range of lightweight portable gas grills available perfect for camping holidays or a family day out to the beach or countryside. Small enough to fit in the boot of the car they come with a disposable gas canister and are available in bright funky colours.

If you want a bbq for a more permanent location, such as the patio, back garden or an outdoor kitchen, then you could always check how feasible it would be to get a built-in gas grill, or treat yourself to a really luxurious gas model in stainless steel equipped with all the latest features.  At the top end of the price range you can get solid, good quality grills that are manufactured from durable and stylish stainless steel and will last for a long time even if used regularly.

Ensure the wheels run smoothly and cooking grates are made from steel or chrome-plated aluminium as they’ll last longer and spread the heat more evenly. At the higher end of the price range you’ll get 3 or 4 burners with individual integral spark ignition allowing for greater heart control and other extras such as removable drip trays and built-in thermometer, side shelves for extra preparation space and porcelain enamelled grills.

Important features you need to look for in a gas BBQ grill include the size of the cooking surface, if it has side shelves, multi-burners, warming shelves, a grease catcher, or a side burner. The brand name is also a clue as to how reliable your barbeque will be, look online for various manufactures and check out reviews and forums particularly if you are planning on spending a lot. Outback, Kingsford, Beefeater and Marco Pierre White are just a few of the best known brands producing quality items.  You’ll also find a selection of quality bbq grill tools & accessories to go with your new purchase!
