Choose A Coffee Table To Fit Your Lifestyle
Many times, you will find a coffee table to be boring. After all, how many ways can you shape a table that fits in front of the sofa and is made of bright shiny wood? Your coffee table does not have to be boring. Here are some ways to spice up a coffee table.
If you have a dining table that is no longer used, consider cutting the legs down so that the table is now the right height for a coffee table. The larger surface is great for a sectional sofa or for a sofa and love seat. As an additional benefit, by moving the table out from the sofa, you can serve your meals in a traditional Japanese style.
In a similar manner, try the same idea of cutting the legs down on a foosball table that you have in storage or find at a thrift shop. Add a glass top for those coffee cups to sit on. If you elevate the glass about three inches, you can still play the game, although you may need to stand on your knees to play.
One of the greatest finds you can find is a glass top from a dining table. Add anything else for a pedestal and you have a great coffee table. One idea is to stand several old phone books on end in a circle, add the glass top and you have a unique coffee table.
Another ides is to use old luggage to make four legs and then use the glass top for the coffee table surface. This will fit nicely with your shabby chic decor. Add a stack of those old suit cases in the corner for a lamp table.
Using the same glass table top, choose four large stones of similar height for a table that gets back to nature.
A large section of a tree trunk that is cut evenly can form a pedestal for the glass table top. The glass will allow the tree rings to show. For an even more beautiful look, sand the top of the pedestal to allow the ring pattern to show even more.
An avid reader could find books that have been withdrawn from the library and stack those books into four similar height stacks. Use school glue to hold the stacks together and they become the legs to your coffee table.
If a large coffee table in the center of the room does not fit with your style, try having three to four twenty four inch high stacking stools. Whenever you serve a beverage to a guest unstuck one of the stools to sit beside that guest to provide a level surface on which to sit a cup or glass. A set of four wooden folding television trays could serve a similar purpose.
Coffee tables no longer need to be boring or traditional. You can find ways to make your own coffee table out of many materials. As an alternative, you can find other ways to have items serve the purpose of a coffee table but still fit well into your room decor.

Bought a very old, beaten up wooden table that someone obviously had outside for a long time judging by the spider webs and dirt dobber nest – it’s round and about the right size for two people to eat at. Want to cut the legs down to coffee table size to use in front of the sofa, but the legs are nailed in (with OLD nails) and glued VERY well and won’t come off, except for one that was loose that I managed to partially wriggle off. Ideally, you’d unscrew all the legs and cut them down on a table saw to make sure they were all straight and even, but we can’t do that. The table is not valuable, but I don’t want to risk damaging it by trying to remove all the legs. Is there a way to leave the legs on and cut them down without too much room for wobbles?? What kind of tool do I need? All we have is a jigsaw; not sure if that will work. Any ideas are appreciated!!
