By Mark J. Donovan

When the weather begins to get a bit milder in early spring make sure to do a deck check. The best time to do deck check is just before you decide to pull out the grill for the warmer months. The winter months can be tough on a deck between the snow, ice and extreme cold temperatures. Snow left on the deck all winter can eat away at the deck stain or sealer and can potentially cause deck rot issues. If the deck surface looks grey or there is peeling exhibited, plan to seal or stain your deck promptly, as soon as the temperatures are sufficiently warm.

As part of the deck check also inspect for loose decking boards, popped deck fasteners and dry rot. Make sure to lift any flower pots or other items that may have been sitting on your deck all winter. Often deck rot starts under these items. Also check the underside of the deck, if you can get to it, to make sure the deck posts and framing look sound. Water and ice, as well as frost heaves, can potentially cause structural damage to the deck making it unsafe for use. In addition, check any deck flashing to make sure it hasn’t failed or been damaged.

Finally, if you do need to re-stain your deck, make sure to do it under mild temperature conditions, e.g. above 50 degrees (F). Also make sure the deck has been spotlessly cleaned and repaired prior to staining. The deck should also be thoroughly dry prior to staining. If the deck surface looks dull after cleaning it apply a brightener to bring out the grain wood colors again.

The latest new home construction forecasts coming out for 2012 suggest that it won’t be much better than 2011, even with 30 year fixed mortgages sub 4%. With unemployment still at very high levels, wages stagnant for those who are working, and banks still tight in lending money, it’s understandable that the future home construction market looks flat. One report suggested one of the few bright spots will be the New York City area. Not surprising, since that’s where much of the country’s wealth resides.

The only positive news out of the forecasts is the fact that there is some stabilization in the housing market. Also, every politician running for president understands that the housing market is key for lifting the U.S. economy out of its funk. Hopefully the American public will figure out who’s the best man for the job in actually coming up with a real plan to fix the problem. Certainly the one in office has no clue. So for now, the residential building industry just needs to continue to wait it out and hope for some real change in November.

Donovan

My daughter commented this morning that New Years Eve is anticlimactic and that she doesn’t really understand what all the fuss and excitement is about. Though I can understand her point of view to some extent, as I’ve watched the ball drop in Time Square every year from the comfort of my sofa for as long as I can remember, I explained to her that New Years Eve represents a time of reflection and hope. That it’s a time when we think about all that was and wasn’t accomplished in the past year, and what we dream to accomplish in the year ahead.

For me this past year was a good year. The family was all healthy, the kids did well in school and their careers, my job went well, and I finally got my private pilot’s certificate. I also got a chance to visit a number of areas of the world including Europe, Asia, California, and the Caribbean. Considering the state of our country and the economic and political upheavals around the world, I feel very fortunate. About the only personal negative was Google’s Panda search engine update that continued to plague HomeAdditionPlus.com and much of the rest of the internet in 2011. But even monopolistic Google couldn’t dampen my spirits that much this year.

I’m also very hopeful for the year ahead. 2012 is a presidential election year and I’m very optimistic that the Great Pretender will be sent packing and will be replaced by a person of real substance and experience. With even just the hope of real change in the political climate, I’m confident the stock market will continue to rise, and that the businesses climate will improve and more people will find jobs. Simply the thought of a new political leadership landscape that is interested in producing more domestic oil in North America alone in the next 12 to 18 months should be a boon for the economy as soon as the first half of 2012. Couple that thought with less red tape for businesses and a stable tax environment, corporations and the stock market should be giddy in the months ahead. And yes, that giddiness will trickle down in the form of new jobs and hiring, and an improved housing market. My only real fear is that people won’t realize why the stock market is rallying prior to the presidential election and that the Great Pretender gets re-elected. To be crystal clear, the stock market will rally because of future expectations, rather than current economic policies that have hamstrung this country for 3 plus years.

For Europe I’m also hopeful. Although, I believe more days of reckoning are still ahead for them in the next 3 to 6 months and that their economic maturity growing pains will inflict occasional aches on the world markets. With an improving United States economy, however, I believe the aches felt around the world will be tempered. I also think China will see renewed growth as their inflation levels are beginning to recede. With lower inflation, the Chinese government will be able to go back to its policies of pro-growth by easing its monetary policy.

The only real concern in 2012 is the Middle East. It will most likely continue to be a hotbed of fomenting political hatred between its own people and factions in Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia. Diplomacy, and the threat of a big stick, will be key to keeping the peace inside and outside of those countries.

So to conclude, 2011 was again another difficult year for the world including the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. No doubt 2012 will have its challenges as well, particularly in the Middle East. However, I am very optimistic for the United States. I believe with a change in the White House the citizens of this country will rally to a President who is truly proud of his country and communicates a positive message to its people.

Choosing the best projectors for a home theater can be a daunting task as there are so many criteria to look at. Investing in a good projector will make your experience at home almost identical to the ones in the cinema. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to help you to narrow down your search on the market for the best possible deals. This article will introduce 3 different projectors with its characteristics.

Firstly, if you are into high definition movies, the best HD projector for home theater in this year 2011 is the Mitsubishi HC9000D. It gives you amazing picture quality. Unlike other projectors, the pixels are sharp and you can see resolved details when pictures are projected onto the screen. This gives you an almost film like experience as if you are watching from a HD television. Another plus for this projector is its added benefit of supporting 3D. This will give you the license to brag in your neighborhood that probably, you’ve got the best projector for home theatre at half of the cost.

Home Theater

Secondly, if your budget is the main concern and you’re looking for something more affordable, you can consider BenQ Joybee GP1 which is only about 00. Also known as a palmtop, this projector is the best for its class. As the name palmtop suggest, it is supposed to fit on your palm. Therefore, it is portable and lightweight. However, don’t let its size fools you. The picture quality is excellent for what you’re paying for. Besides that, this LED projector is even compatible to play blue ray disk. Not only having a built in audio is a plus, the true fascination is that it is able to read video files from your USB.

Finally, if you are a gamer especially on a PlayStation 3, Acer H7530D is the best projector for gaming purposes. Being a DLP projector, the picture quality and black level performance is much better than a LCD. Although it may be slightly more expensive than a LCD projector, you will be amazed at how well this machine is performing in terms of resolution and pixel, making it one of the best projectors for home theater in relevance to the world of gaming.

This is a general guideline to help you to get a better idea on the best projectors for home theater. However, it is best for you to consult a professional to clear away any doubts about these products.

Whether it’s buying a car, the clothes that you wear, or the house that you live in the buzz today is all about going green and living eco friendly lives. There are some obvious benefits to going green, such as being less wasteful, saving money, saving energy, and health benefits, not to mention that it can just make you feel good knowing that you are doing something good for the earth. One of the problems that people who are looking for eco friendly house plans face is that it’s hard to know what really counts as being eco friendly when looking at various house plans. Here are some things to watch for so that you can find the real deal in green house plans:

Look for smaller house plans. The larger the home the more energy it will consume. Even with all the possible energy saving techniques in place a bigger home just uses more energy than a smaller home. To have a home that is the most efficient build a home that is just as big as necessary for your family. Custom home plans can be created to fit the needs of your family and not waste space.

Home Design

Consider where you build the home. Building a home on the side of a mountain or in an open field is a lovely idea however, it is probably not the most eco friendly idea. Instead build your home near other already existing homes and developed areas. This is the least harmful to the environment surrounding the home. Less trees will need to be cut down and less ground will need to be torn away. Also, if you live closer to others it will be easier to carpool, bike, or take public transportation saving even more money.

Look for the natural light. The home should be placed strategically so that it can capitalize on natural light. During the daylight hours the majority of the light should come from the natural daylight instead of lamps and light bulbs. Windows and skylights can help to lower energy costs. Insulated dual glazed windows will reduce the heat gain in the summer and the heat loss in the winter months. Overhangs on the facades of the house facing south and west will help to prevent too much heat in the summer months.

The roof. A light colored roof will reflect the sun’s heat instead of absorbing it, helping to keep the house cooler. This is a good green option for new as well as already existing homes. Another roofing idea is a green roof which is partially or entirely covered by a layer of soil and vegetation. This type of roof protects from direct sunlight and acts as an added insulation.

Insulation. Look for a high R-value insulation, the higher the R-value the more effective it is as insulation. Avoid insulations that contain formaldehyde as a binding agent. Look for insulation made from soy, cotton, cellulose, or recycled content. A properly insulated home can save you hundreds of dollars over the life of your home.

Reduce energy usage. When purchasing appliances for a new or existing home look for energy star rated appliances. Efficient heating and cooling systems will save you energy and money. Install a programmable thermostat. You might also consider installing solar panels or a geothermal heating system as ways to bring energy into the house to heat water and deliver heating and cooling throughout the home. Some homes that use solar panels and geothermal are able to stay completely off the energy grid. Install ceiling fans and use those as often as possible instead of air conditioning, which can save you 30% on cooling costs.

Building materials. All building materials used should be non-toxic. Volatile organic compounds (VOC) evaporate quickly at room temperature and add to the indoor air pollution. Look for low or VOC-free paints, finishes, adhesives, and sealants. Use as many natural products that are rapidly renewable such as bamboo, as possible. You may also consider using recycled materials or materials with recycled components, including reclaimed lumber.

Don’t be discouraged if you can’t find a house plan that fits your needs and includes all the eco friendly characteristics. Any green features that you incorporate into your eco friendly house plans helps to reduce your demand on nature and helps to save resources. Be aware of what green options are out there and determine which can best be used in your home.

Home business owners have longed for overnight success for as long as business has existed. Everyone, no matter how educated, rich or knowledgeable you are, wants to get something for nothing. You might think it is greed or laziness that allows the human imagination to run wild with concepts that could make us rich. The fact is, though, even highly motivated people can get caught up in the promise of riches without effort. This dream is highly promoted for internet home business.

Living life in the fast lane has become a way of life in our society. Instant gratification permeates every area of our daily activities. Cell phones, microwave ovens, fast foods, jets and the internet are just a few examples of areas where we have come to expect quick access to what we want. The Internet is the most amazing medium for technology. When you think about it, only a few short years ago the world was a much bigger place. Today, global communication is possible as soon as you log on.

Home Business

Promise of overnight success fills our e-mail and is prevalent on every Google search. Pre-launch, turnkey and instant wealth opportunities are springing up every day. The attraction of getting something for nothing is almost irresistible. Even when common sense tells us the claims are too good to be true, what if they are. If the cost to check it out is low enough many people will check it out just in case! The only ones making any money are the people who made the offer in the first place. The more people who pay the price to check it out, the more money they make!

Home business owners online have a skewed view of what it takes to be successful online. We see the promises so often we start to believe that overnight success is possible. Stories of riches reach us and we perceive those successes happened literally overnight. That just is not reality. We forget or ignore the reality that success in anything takes time. It’s true that we often hear about the success that was unheard of yesterday. What we don’t understand is the hard work and discipline that preceded the seemingly overnight success.

Malcolm Gladwell examines the secrets of successful people in his new book, Outliers. The best kept secret or perhaps the most ignored fact is that successful people simply put in more hours than anyone else. They spend an extraordinary amount of time pursuing their particular passion. Most will spend 10,000 hours or more developing their skills, talent, knowledge and experience in order to achieve the success that we perceive to have happened overnight.

Marketing online is not immune to the secrets of success. Hard work and discipline is required to get the results that you want and need to be successful. If the best and brightest business tycoons spent 10,000 hours or more working towards their goal it does not make sense that online marketers believe they can achieve success overnight without having to do a thing. And yet they do!

Jumping from one business to another with the promise of instant success is the surest way to fail online. The Internet offers the average person the best hope for home business success if you treat it with respect. Instead of being lured into the next best business opportunity it would make more sense to find an opportunity that speaks to you and then stick with it.

Changing your mindset from get rich quick to get rich is not that difficult. Treat your online business like a real business from the minute you start to consider the internet as your vehicle to success. Instead of looking at what’s hot and new, you might be better served to look at the tried and true.

Affiliating with a company that has been doing business successfully for more than two years adds credibility to your business opportunity. It has been well documented that most business will fail within the first two years after start up. Business on the Internet follows the same pattern.

Too much credence is given to the new pre-launch business opportunity. Any start up business is risky at best. Only those business opportunities that have a very strong product and well developed business plan will even get past the starting gate. Getting involved with a business that is writing the business plan as it launches is just plainly ludicrous.

Forget the empty promises. When you are looking at business opportunity, the discerning eye of the business man or woman is needed. I have been told so many times that the product is not important if you want to make money. The underlying assumption is that the compensation plan is the most important piece of any business opportunity. My experience has been that the product is equally as important as the way you will get paid. Any product or service has to give value to the ultimate consumer or no one will pay to have it.

Knowing who your customers are will be is as important as knowing who your competition is. Unless you have a very large circle of influence you will not be able to support a significant income by having family and friends as your customers. Sooner or later you have to go elsewhere to find customers if you want your business to grow.

The Internet is the perfect vehicle to find customers. Home business owners have the ability to market their company across the globe. Keep in mind that the most successful people have put in 10,000 or more hours before they became an overnight success. Choose your business well, and then work hard and consistently until you reach your goal for success.

Be sure your home siding ideas will give you the results you want both now and later.

It’s time to update your home’s exterior. You have many home siding ideas and can’t seem to decide which one to choose. By evaluating the pros and cons of each of your home siding ideas using the following three evaluation points, you’ll narrow your list and be able to choose the best solution for your needs.

Home Improvement Ideas

No matter whether your home is old or new, all three of these points should be considered before you choose the best of your home siding ideas. All of your ideas should be tested for 1) durability and functionality, 2) style and beauty, and 3) maintenance.

Durability and Functionality

While aesthetics and beauty for your home are important, the primary focal point of evaluating your home siding ideas should be in the area of durability and functionality. These factors can vary greatly by the type of siding used as well as your geographical location.

The durability and functionality can be heavily influenced by weather and climate conditions. No matter what your home siding ideas some perform better than others. Dry climates, moist climates, windy conditions, rain, snow, and frost can affect the performance of the siding you choose. Vinyl siding does well in all weather conditions. If you choose other home siding ideas, make sure you choice is compatible with your climate and weather.

All your home siding ideas should be evaluated according to their ability to provide moisture and pest barriers. Problems in these two areas can cause maintenance problems with your home as well as allegories and illness to those residing in your home.

Home Siding Ideas

Style and Beauty

Most likely, you already have a vision of how you want the exterior of your home to look. Make sure it’s a choice you can live with on a daily basis. There’s a huge variety of choices to be found concerning the type of material, the colors, the method of application, and the choice of possible combinations of materials. There’s vinyl, brick, cedar, log, as well as others from which to choose. Each brings it’s own unique image and personality to the exterior of your home. When used in combination the possibilities are even more profound. Be sure to explore this area. You’ll be amazed at how much creative license is available and how uniquely attractive and satisfying you can make the exterior of your home.

Maintenance

It’s very important to consider the time you’re willing to devote to maintenance of the home siding ideas you are considering. There is a wide variance in maintenance requirements and how it affects the function, the look, and the durability of your siding. Improper maintenance can be very costly with some choices. Be sure to adequately investigate and determine the amount of time that is required for proper maintenance.

By carefully considering your home siding ideas using these three evaluation points you can:

o	Give your house the look you want

o	Protect your family’s health

o	Protect your family’s safety

o	Save Money

o	Save Time, and

o	Protect the Investment you’ve made in your home

Today, many people have started to invest in real estate with a great enthusiasm. But, after a few months, they get discouraged as they do not get the desired response.

They become a bit pessimistic when they find that they cannot get rich quickly.

Real Estate is a very attractive field and people find it like a domain where money comes easily. But, the reality is very different from how it looks.

Real Estate

Every field requires some hard work, planning and some tricks as well. Becoming successful in real estate also requires certain steps to be followed.

The most common mistake committed by most of the people is that they learn a few tricks and they think that they can become rich very fast.

Another mistake that they do is that they see other people who are successful and they think

that they can become successful in the same way.

People may have good ideas and a very effective plan, but they can be unsuccessful even after that.

This happens mainly due to lack of efforts.

So, the best plan for becoming successful is that you should be realistic. When you make plans, they should be short termed, realistic and result-oriented.

For example, your plan may be as follows:

To buy some two or three properties, rent them, sell, fix them and earn some good money by next christmas at any cost.

Calculate very well what you want to achieve in next ten years. Plans like how much you will retire with should be clear.

What we mainly advise is to become realistic and be clear with a short term and result-oriented plan.

As I spend this weekend whiling away the time looking out the 14th floor window of my hotel room in Tokyo, Japan, I can’t help but marvel and reflect at the sea of concrete and people as far as the eye can see. There’s a feeling of loneliness in me as I look out at such a sea of humanity. I’m not sure quite why. I’m sure some of the reason is I simply miss my family. But I also think it’s due heavily in part to how insignificant I realize each one of us is in relationship to the Earth and as a species as a whole. Looking down at street level I see waves of people scurrying to and from the Ikebukuro train station, each with their own purpose and mission. Each too with their own goals, hopes, and crosses to bear, as is the case with every human being.

Several floors below me there’s an outdoor Christian chapel associated with the hotel. In just this one weekend I’ve counted at least 6 weddings, with each bride in a beautiful white gown and their betrothed husband in a luxurious tuxedo. As each newlywed couple walked the short 50 feet from the stairs of the chapel to the back of the deck court yard, their family and friends clapped and tossed rose petals over their heads to celebrate their union. Such the dichotomy, to see so sacred and private an event between newly joined couples, against the unending background maze of concrete buildings. As I watched the weddings, it provided me with some reassuring comfort to see that there are still people out there in this world who believe in a religious value system and tradition. And even more so when you consider the fact that they appeared to be Christian weddings, in a country where the majority of citizens either practice Shinto or Buddhism.

At night, the Tokyo skyline is lit up in all directions. Most eerily is the sight of thousands of blinking red lights atop all the buildings. No two are in sync with each other. As a result, the night sky looks abuzz with a swarm of red flashing fireflies. There’s also the regular sound of two-tone sirens going by on the streets below. Often there is an accompanying amplified voice over the siren sound, most likely warning people to clear the road ahead. The voice seems to add a sense of panic to the situation, rather than urgency.

I think part of the emptiness I feel in Tokyo is also due in part to the country’s demographics. To say it’s a homogenous population is an understatement. As I walked the streets and train stations, amongst the tens of thousands of people I saw, only a handful were westerners. So different than the United States where it truly is a melting pot of races and cultures from all around the world. Consequently other than the hotel and airport, very few people speak any other language than Japanese. Similarly, restaurant choices are limited mainly to Japanese and Asian cuisine. Albeit I did find a McDonalds and a Krispy Kreme Donut store, but I chose not to patronage them.

But all this said, the Japanese are an extremely friendly and helpful people. All that I spoke with, or tried to speak with, worked with me to answer my questions or to point me in the right direction. Some even pulled out their cell phones to help translate words for me. I think it also helped that I learned a few basic Japanese words to show some respect for them and their country. Knowing how to say at least hello and thank you in the language associated with the country you’re visiting should be a must-do for every traveler.

So though I feel a little lost, humbled, and diminutive by the sheer size of Tokyo, Japan and its population, I can’t help but marvel and be encouraged to see that life still goes on at the most basic level between its people and its visitors in such a vast place. And when you consider that just a few short months ago this country faced one of the most cataclysmic and devastating events in recent history, it is even more encouraging to see how life continues to move forward. With the weekend nearly over now, my remaining days in Japan will be much faster pace with many customer visits and traveling throughout the country. And I look forward to it. But though I’ve missed my home and family this weekend, I’ve also appreciated the chance to see life from slightly afar and from a fishbowl. It continues to be a personal event for individuals and families, even in a city of 13 million plus people.

One of the most challenging parts of making interior designs is when you have to work with such small and limited space. Interior designers make their imagination run wild when they are to work with large spaces as they can think of a lot of things to do, however, with such limited space, an interior decorator will hold off certain designs as they cannot work with such small space. Space is a challenge but it can be overcome. You can still make your room look spacious through designing ideas for small spaces – here are some tips for you.

The first tip in designing a small room is to de-clutter. Start by having a big basket or box where you can put all the small things lying around the room. Once you are able to de-clutter, you can immediately see that you actually have more space than you think. If you visually see the space you can work with, you can now come up with interior designs for your room.

Interior Design

The next tip is to avoid having large furniture or windows in a small room. This will just take up space and in the case of bulky windows; they can take more of the limited light in your room. Opt for small blinds for your windows to allow the light to pass and make you room look more spacious.

The third advice for small space is to use just the right amount of color. In a small room, it will be best to paint your walls with plain and just a single color. If you try to work on to many colors in your room, it will just look confusing. Remember that you are making the room feel airy and spacious. In light of this, the next tip is to maximize the light in your room. As mentioned, light can add space to a small room. What you can do is put mirrors across the window or make sure your furniture are always polished to make the bounce back in the room.

The fifth decorating tip for small rooms is to make use of fabric. If you already have existing furniture that has busy prints and patterns, you can make sure of subtle fabric designs and plain colors. However, if the room is too plain, you can always add some style and color by choosing your fabrics. Bear in mind that you should always balance a small room.

A small space or room can be very challenging especially if you don’t know where to start. You may need to change a lot of things just to make sure the room has extra space. But for the most part, you will also need to check if you have the right furniture in the room. Perhaps you are using a big wooden closet that is taking a lot of space and you can just use plastic made drawers instead. These tips for various interior designs for small spaces will greatly help you face this challenge.

How to Make a Popcorn Ceiling Patch

By Mark J. Donovan

Recently I began to notice in our bathroom a small patch of popcorn ceiling material falling away from the drywall ceiling. At first, the spot was only about 1 inch in diameter. However within a couple of weeks it increased to 2 to 3 inches in diameter. I wasn’t sure what the cause was due to the fact that there was no apparent water stain on or near the affected area. I went up into the attic to make sure there was indeed no water related issues that was causing the popcorn ceiling to pull away from the drywall. Again, I saw no telltale water signs that could indicate it was the source of my problem. In the end I chalked up the problem due to simply age. The home is nearly 23 years old and a bathroom has higher than normal moisture levels in it. Consequently I began figuring out my best solution for doing a popcorn ceiling repair.

There is a number of popcorn ceiling products on the market today that you can choose from to do small popcorn ceiling repairs. Normally I’ve used a simple tub of pre-mixed popcorn ceiling mixture and spread it using a small putty knife. Usually you can find pre-mixed popcorn ceiling mixture in various texture thicknesses, so you can typically find one that matches any popcorn ceiling texture.

For this popcorn ceiling repair project, however, I decided to try a spray on popcorn ceiling repair product. In a nutshell I was not happy with it. It sprayed all over the place and made quite the mess, even though I had placed a large sheet of cardboard under the affected area. In addition, it did not create a popcorn ceiling texture that resembled the existing ceiling. Consequently I ended up scraping it off and resorting to the tried and tested tub of pre-mixed popcorn ceiling mixture. I applied it with a 3 inch wide drywall taping knife. After 24 hours it dried to a white color that matched the ceiling color exactly. The patch is slightly noticeable due to a slight difference in texture appearance, however it is a far cry from looking up and seeing bare drywall.

When doing a popcorn ceiling repair project make sure to first scrape away the loose popcorn ceiling using a putty knife. If you do not do this you’ll end up with a bigger mess. As you attempt to apply the popcorn ceiling repair product you’ll wind up pulling off the existing loose popcorn ceiling material. Also, many of the popcorn ceiling repair products suggest priming the drywall area after removing the old popcorn ceiling mixture. I’ve not done this and have never had an issue with the repair popcorn ceiling mixture sticking to the drywall.

If you need to cut back on your Home Decoration this holiday season to save money don’t worry. You can still have a great time decorating your home for the holidays and make your home look great without spending a fortune. The key to finding cheap Home Decoration ideas that don’t look cheap is to be creative. The more creative you are the better the decoration ideas you come up with will be.

The first thing that you need to do is sit down, examine your finances, and decide how much of your holiday spending money you want to spend on decorations. Once you have a good idea of what the budget will be you can use these ideas to create fantastic holiday decorations:

Home Decoration

Wrap It Up

Take the art that you already have on the walls in your home and wrap each piece individually like a present in festive paper and ribbons. Wrapping paper is very cheap, even the fancy paper, and ribbons can be purchased in bulk for additional savings. Seeing those wrapped presents on the wall will help everyone in the home get excited to put wrapped presents under the tree. You can also use wrapping paper to wrap doors and windows.

Go Green

If you visit a Christmas tree farm and talk to the owner you may be able to get piles of Evergreen branches for free or for very little money. There are always broken branches leftover when people buy trees and often they are just discarded. If you’re crafty you can take these branches home and glue them into festive wreaths for the doors and windows. You can also tie ribbons on groups of branches and place them on tables, the mantelpiece, in vases on shelves and all around the house. They will look very cheerful and fill the house with the wonderful scent of Christmas trees all for next to nothing.

Focus On One Room

Instead of trying to buy enough Home Decoration items to fill the house concentrate on one room in the house and put all your efforts and money into that room. You can choose from many different holiday Home Decoration ideas to create your own Christmas wonderland that everyone can enjoy. If you’re planning a holiday party make it a potluck and spend the extra money on decorations instead of food.

Make Friends With Your Neighbors

Instead of trying to outdo all the other houses in the neighborhood when it comes to Christmas Home Decoration have a neighborhood meeting with delicious Christmas cookies and ask people to agree to a neighborhood light display instead of individual displays. You can all save money and raise some community spirit by building a neighborhood Christmas light display together.

Home Decoration for the holidays doesn’t have to bankrupt you. This year get creative with your holiday decorations and spend the extra money on your family.

A house can never turn out to be a home if the owner of the house applies no personal touches. It is possible to revolutionize the house to a home only by preparing custom home designs. This is in fact the best way of bringing a personal touch to any house.

By taking a contractor’s help, you can tailor each part of the house and suit your need to reflect your own personality. If you’re new to home design plans and aren’t sure of ways to draft them, then it is essential to hire a professional contractor. Furthermore, even if you are convinced about drawing, designing and setting up a successful Dwelling Place designs plan, a professional’s help will still ensure you that the progression is standardized and that results are more rewarding.

Home Design

Few things need to be considered when opting for house design plans. The considerations need to be followed when choosing the architectural designs of the house. Here are some points that need to be considered by the house owners while planning to decorate their house.

· It is important to decide the budget before starting the new household designs plan. This is an absolute necessity.

· You must contact a reputed and experienced dwelling place design contractor for helping you out in the designing plans.

· It is essential to consider the details of household designing plans and its requirements. However, if you feel that you are not too sure about the luxury home designs, you can pretty well have a close look at home and house books and can also make a quick search on the Internet to form an idea about the aesthetic designs. This is in fact the most thought-provoking part of the entire process because you will have a large number of options to select from. After finalizing the designs you can start outlining the dwelling place design plans.

· Before the custom home designs plan gets finalized, you can opt to change and revise them any time. Changing the design becomes a difficult affair with start of the building process. Thus before starting the building work, ensure to be comfortable with your new home designs.

· There are many home designing services that provide pre-designed house plans. Availing for these services will save much of your time and money. They are ready-made home design plans. However, these designs might not always be appropriate for your house and some minor changes might sometimes become necessary.

Summers can become really hot sometimes and the upcoming summer is going to be hotter than the previous one. Have you prepared yourself for the upcoming summer season?

Preparing is not in the sense of purchasing surf boards or a new pair of shorts. Before the summer arrives, it is best that you check all the cooling appliances in your home to make sure that they are working properly. This way, when the summer arrives, you can comfortably enjoy your time in your home.

Home Repair

Air conditioning is an important part if you want to spend your summers in peace. Therefore, before summers arrive, AC repair is essential. Therefore, you should perform an air conditioning repair to see if your AC is working properly or not.

The main problems that occur with an AC, that it is either hot or leaking water. Following are some home repair tips for repairing your AC at home.

Repair Options If Its Hot?

Generally, the air conditioning repair experts cost a lot and that is why it is a cheap option to repair your AC yourself. However, in order to do so, you must have some good pair of hands to do so. Otherwise, you will just end up screwing up your air conditioning system.

If your AC is too hot, there is a simple solution for it. Turn off your AC from its circuit. If you have an outdoor unit installed then go outside and see if there is anything in the surroundings of the unit. Things like dirt colds, rocks, and leaves often surround the condenser of an a/c unit. Make sure that you get rid of all these items from the surrounding areas.

Often dirt and leaves pile up or get stuck in the vents. Gently clean it all up and if possible, you can use a brush or hose to clean it as well. However, make sure to use gentle hands. Make sure to get as much inside as possible when cleaning the condenser because you will find a lot of dirt and leaves in there as well. Get rid of all the trash you find in there and turn your air conditioning unit on again.

It will take some time to warm up, so be patient. It is essential that you perform basic cleaning of your air conditioning unit from time to time. In order to attain optimal cooling from your ac unit, you can perform this maintenance every week as well.

Planning to sell your house? Finding a possible buyer can be made easier if the house looks impressive. You need to do a once-over regarding the interior as well as the exterior of your property before you put it up in the market.

Remove clutter. A house that is full of clutter is already a big turn off. You would want to create a very good impression to the buyer. Not to mention that you will be able to put up the house at a higher price if it looks like it is also valuable.

Home Improvement Ideas

Organization skills can be all that you will need in order to make your house clutter free. But, remember that this will not be like stuffing all of them inside your cabinets to make your house look organized. You have to take out all things that you consider unusable. There might be also some things that use up too much space. You can also take out these things.

Assign a storage space. You need to have storage space for the things that are present in your house. Many would want to buy a house because it offers a lot of storage spaces without having to add several more at their own expense. But, this does not mean that you have to build more cabinets and drawers. This might be possible but only if you have enough funds. If you do not have lots of existing storage space, you can take out their contents and make them look spacious and can still accommodate a lot of things.

Prioritize the entrance. This is the first part of the house that will be seen by visitors or interested buyers. So, give it one hundred and one percent in organizing, cleaning, and designing. When they see that the first part of the house looks outstanding, they can already create a good impression. And when they move on to other parts of the property that we can say, not very appealing, they might still consider buying the house.

Remove anything outdated. Talk about creating impressions. A house that you are to sell needs to look new and not lived in by too much. This can be the selling point for most properties.

Take out anything that looks used and is really used by the persons who have lived there before. To save money, you can repair them if they can still be salvaged and made to look like new. Otherwise, make sure that you clean your house from outdate stuff that can ruin your chances of selling it at a good price.

Create an illusion of space. Generally, many would want to have a larger space to live in. So, even if your house seems to have only the average living space, you can make it look bigger by designing it properly. To make it look like there is more space available, use small to appropriately sized furniture. Also, mirrors will help reinforce the impression. Take out extra furniture. Coffee tables and stools that are not necessarily important in the functionality of the house should be taken out.

By Mark J. Donovan

HomeAdditionPlus.com is preparing to release a new HouseSight service. The service is an online auction for connecting contractors with homeowners that are soliciting home remodeling contractor bids. There is no cost to contractors for signing up for the HouseSight contractor directly list. In addition, there are no lead referral fees. The only cost to contractors is a bid fee, and an additional commission fee for the winner of the project.

The online auction for submitting and bidding on home remodeling projects is simple. A HouseSight homeowner member submits a project for bid. HouseSight notifies contractors local to the project about the project opportunity. Contractors interested in the project fill out an online bid form and pay a small bid fee. Once the homeowner selects a contractor, he or she pays a final commission fee to HouseSight for the service. It’s that simple.

In addition, to the online bid solicitation/submission auction service, HouseSight also provides free business marketing services. Each HouseSight member, be it a homeowner or contractor, can post as many projects as they like on HouseSight. In addition, contractors can provide a link to their company website, along with contact information and a description of their services and of each uploaded project. And again, each HouseSight member can post as many projects as they like on the service.

So stop paying annual membership fees to other contractor directory lists, and paying contractor lead fees for each lead sent your way. Sign up for HouseSight today and pay for leads only when you want to pursue them, and start marketing your business to motivated homeowners.

There’s one thing that many homeowners dread and that’s unanticipated major home repair. You can put off some house repairs but others must be done without delay, such as roof repair. When repairs on your home have to be made, you will need to find out how much you will be spending for home repair costs. Make sure you have enough funds to finish the project before you even think about starting.

Major Home Repair Costs

Home Repair

Some home repairs are minor and do not cost much. Others, including the following, are major projects that may cost you thousands of dollars:

Roofing. Roof repairs may involve the installation of new shingles over existing ones. In some cases old shingles will have to be removed and replaced with new ones. The job will cost from to dollars per square foot. If you need new flashing expect to pay 0 to 0 more.
Electrical repairs. Major electrical repairs should be left to professionals. A do-it-yourselfer can put in new light bulbs, outlets and light sockets. But if you need an electrical upgrade or a new circuit you should call an electrician. Electrical home repair may cost up to ,800.

Plumbing. For major plumbing repairs, you need a plumber or plumbing contractor. Repairs can involve replacing a sink, bathtub, toilet, tiles, etc. You may also want to install a submersible pump, jet pump, whirlpool bath or a new bathroom. Repair costs can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.

Other major home repairs are HVAC repairs, foundation repairs, and driveway or walkway repaving.

Getting an Estimate

Repairing and remodeling homes is a big business. There are websites that can give you a rough estimate of how much a particular job would cost. It’s difficult to get an exact figure online because jobs can vary based on the size of the home, location, materials used, and other factors such as building codes and job practices.

To get an idea of how much a job will cost, visit your local home center. Find out how much the materials cost. Add an amount for labor and profit.

To know exactly how much a specific home repair job will cost, call one or more contractors and ask for an estimate. Get at least three estimates that you can compare. The contractors should bid on materials and workmanship of similar quality. Also ask for options using the next better or worse materials. Quotations should be made in writing.

You can always ask a contractor if they can lower their price. You can also save on home repair costs by doing part of the job. Homeowners can do some of the demolition or prep work to save money.
